Potrero Hill has a rich history as a working class neighborhood just south of downtown. The neighborhood is more residential in feel than any of the other condominium districts, with neighborhood shopping and single-family residences. While the landscape of Potrero Hill has changed little over the past decades, the neighborhood has become noticeably more upscale. A perfect example of this trend is the recent opening of a Whole Foods supermarket.
Home to an eclectic group of residents, the neighborhood has a creative and independent spirit. And because it is set on a steep hill, this neighborhood has some of the best views in San Francisco.
Potrero Hill is also adjacent to the Central Waterfront, which still maintains its industrial roots despite the recent addition of light-rail tracks down its main thoroughfare and many new condominium developments.
Both neighborhoods enjoy excellent access to downtown San Francisco, as well to highways leading south to Silicon Valley and east to the Bay Bridge.
